fischer Panda gen set Words of warning !

I have a Fischer Panda 4000 series sea water cooled. the one with the starter motor that sits in the middle of the generator. The gen set decided to stop charging on the way back from Cowes to Poole so into the back of the boat mine is under the gas locker in my 411 after 4 hours of checking and cursing in the very tight spot, I gave in and called FP engineer Lee, he came out and told me it was um! dead! needed a new rotor and windings parts cost in excess of £700 plus other parts
The reason It failed was due to a design fault where the starter motor hits the ring gear and drops filings into the rotor windings and then catches in the windings and Hay Presto! open circuit Now one of the ways to stop this is do not start the gen set if it is wired to your leisure batteries when flat or low in charge! if your wiring is like this!!!! Change it! So it has its own charging system and own battery
I was lucky Fischer Panda were very helpful and rebuilt the gen set as it was just under guarantee Thank you to all at Fischer Panda but still had to drag it out and reinstall it myself
